Today is Halloween and our team would like to provide you and your loved ones with some Halloween Pest Tips. Many people recognize today as the first major event of the holiday season. These tips are also useful for the rest of this year’s major events.

Are there Passengers in your Pumpkin?

Decorations are often a vehicle for pests! During the off-season, pests and rodents can make a home out of your fake cobwebs, pumpkins, and elaborate ghouls. Make sure you keep these decorations in sealed containers. Also, you should remember this tip when it comes time to bring exterior decorations back into your humble abode.

Thick gloves should be considered when moving older decor that has remanded in a cluttered attic, garage, or basement. Gloves add a layer of protection from spiders and other pests/wildlife that could pose a risk. In our region the two spiders that homeowners should be most aware of are the Black Widow and Brown Recluse.

Protect your Property

Can’t figure out where that “bump in the night” is coming from? It could be a rodent or other wildlife creature looking for some warmth and shelter due to the dropping temperature. Paying residents should consider screening their attic vents and other openings to prevent four-legged “squatters” from moving in. This will also help deter bats and other flying creatures. Our experts should be contacted if you suspect bats have already infiltrated your home.

Get Treats, not Tricked!

New costumes are less of a concern, however if you plan on borrowing a costume or buying a used one you should inspect it throughly. Bedbugs can live in the seams of costumes and leave you with spots on your skin that are itchy, red, and in a line. Although these bites will go away with time, Hydrocortisone creams and antihistamines may lead to a speedier recovery. It is a good idea to get rid of affected costumes immediately and check furniture for signs of bedbugs: white eggs, shed skins, and the actual tiny reddish-brown bug.
